Not All Chiropractic Is The Same

Let me stress that not all Chiropractic is the same! There is a significant difference between older, manual techniques and modern, evidenced-based Chiropractic. But let’s start with the basics.

Chiropractic is a profession that deals with the relationship between our STRUCTURE (Vertebrae – Bones of the Back) and FUNCTION (The Central Nervous System). This is the foundation for all Chiropractors with the goal being, to ensure the spine is properly aligned and proper Nervous System function is maintained. However, like all things in life evolution takes place. Improvements, advancements and new technologies improve upon a once perfectly acceptable application. That is life. All healthcare professions have improved and evolved with advancements in our understanding of human anatomy, physiology with enhanced diagnostic procedures and scientific methods. Chiropractic is the largest Natural Healthcare profession in the world but it continues to evolve and improve. There is a new and better way to maintain spinal health that is effective, evidenced-based, comfortable and most importantly SAFE. Gone are the days of twisting, turning and cracking.

So What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is all-natural health care and a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. It is based on the anatomical and physiological fact that the brain and spinal cord, the Central Nervous System (CNS), controls absolutely everything in the body. Our skull and spine protect this vital system. The CNS controls every cell, tissue, muscle and organ in the body. So it is very important that the bones that protect it, are in the correct position and working properly. Chiropractic maintains the relationship between our structure (Skeleton) and function (CNS).

The human body has been able to keep itself healthy for thousands of years without the use of drugs or surgery as long as there is no interference to our CNS function. If you are sick, had a cut or wound what heals you? Your body does. How does it do that? Your body’s healing mechanism is 100% controlled by your nervous system.

Chiropractic concentrates on the cause of problems, not just the symptoms that are produced or felt. By removing spinal interference optimum health to can be achieved.

Most are surprised to hear that Chiropractic is not just about PAIN. Pain can be your first indication that a spinal problem is present but that problem may have already existed for weeks, months or years. This is a common misconception because Chiropractic is so effective in pain relief. In fact, it is usually pain that motivates people to start seeing a Chiropractor but improved overall health is the usual reason for continued visits.

How Does Chiropractic Work?

Chiropractors aim to locate and remove interferences to your nervous system. This interference is caused by a Misalignment or what Chiropractors call a Subluxation. This occurs when one or more bones in the spine become misaligned, loses its normal mobility and balance and causes irritation to the nervous system (nerves). This creates a block in communication between the brain, spinal nerves and the body. Studies have shown that if misalignments are left untreated for 2 weeks, spinal degeneration begins to occur. The reason for this is because movement is the key to life and when any bodily function stops its normal movement pattern, cell death begins to occur. This fact is relevant for all parts and functions of the body but most widespread and damaging when occurring in the spine. Chiropractors are the only health professionals trained to detect and safely remove this type of interference and restore proper alignment and mobility back to the spine.

Some common symptoms experienced when the nervous system is irritated:

  • pain – numbness, pain or tingling down the arms
  • sciatica – muscular tightness and imbalance
  • stiffness – headaches, migraine and dizziness
  • muscle spasm – joint pain including frozen shoulder, hip, knee and foot pain
  • ear infections – and an array of other symptoms
  • allergies
  • digestive issues

What Do Chiropractors Do?

Chiropractors perform a thorough history including Orthopaedic, Neurological and Chiropractic exams along with X-ray analysis. This evaluation will allow the Chiropractor to uncover any structural problems and/or underlying pathology. All of these examinations combine to help identify regions of spinal malfunction, where the CNS is not working properly and allow the Chiropractor to create a custom treatment plan for the patient.

With modern chiropractic, we only use the most advanced Chiropractic techniques and technologies. Our treatment uses Computerised Biosensors to detect areas of dysfunction and patented NASA technology to correct them. These adjustments are specific to the spinal condition present and follow the anatomical laws of the body. This is the safest and most effective Chiropractic therapy available, that is evidenced-based and scientifically verified to be precise, specific, and effective in treating spinal and joint dysfunction.

Understanding Your Treatment Plan

Your chiropractor will determine your treatment plan based on detailed exam findings and diagnostic reports. It is important to understand that pain is often the last symptom to appear when a problem develops and usually the first to disappear when healing begins. Many spinal issues exist long before discomfort arises, which is why waiting until pain becomes unbearable is not an ideal approach to care. By the time pain sets in, significant degeneration or dysfunction may have already occurred.

How Long Will I Need Chiropractic Care?

A common question among new patients is, “How long will I need chiropractic care?” The answer depends on several factors, including the severity and duration of the condition, the patient’s age, and how well the body responds to treatment. Your chiropractor will develop a personalized care plan based on your unique needs, focusing on restoring proper spinal function and mobility as efficiently as possible.

The Body’s Adaptation and Its Impact on Treatment

The human body is incredibly adaptable. While this ability is a survival advantage, it can also be a drawback when it comes to spinal health. Over time, your body adjusts to dysfunction, which can mask underlying issues until they reach a critical stage. Once this threshold is crossed, pain and other symptoms begin to emerge. Unfortunately, less than 10% of nerves in the body perceive pain, meaning that a lack of pain does not equate to good health.

This concept applies to many conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or liver dysfunction. These health issues can progress silently for years before symptoms become apparent. The same holds true for spinal health, which is why proactive chiropractic care is essential for long-term well-being.

Factors That Influence Treatment Duration

The length of chiropractic care varies based on individual circumstances. Some of the key factors include:

  • Severity of the Condition: More complex or chronic spinal issues require longer care to correct misalignments and restore function.
  • Length of Time the Problem Has Existed: The longer a condition has been present, the more time the body needs to heal.
  • Patient’s Age and Lifestyle: Younger individuals and those who maintain a healthy lifestyle may respond more quickly to treatment.
  • Spinal Adaptability: The body’s ability to accept and maintain corrected mobility patterns influences recovery time.
  • Commitment to Care Plan: Patients who follow the recommended care plan and engage in rehabilitative exercises tend to see faster and more sustainable results.

Healing Takes Time

There is no such thing as an instant fix when it comes to spinal health. Just as it takes time to build strength and endurance through exercise, the body needs time to heal, adapt, and maintain proper alignment. Each chiropractic visit builds upon the previous one, creating a cumulative effect that strengthens the spine and nervous system over time.

The process is similar to adopting a new fitness routine. You wouldn’t expect to see immediate results after just one workout; rather, consistent effort leads to meaningful progress. Chiropractic care follows the same principle—slow, steady, and continuous improvements lead to long-term spinal health and overall wellness.
